This is even MORE hilarious now that it’s common knowledge that JP is gay. SORRY GIRLS.

My name is Billy. I'm a big fag and a recovering Mormon. I enjoy comic books, punk rock, whiskey and watching movies with no plot.

pt 1:
Wow. Heather Hudson is a total homophobic bitch, seriously. Northstar get’s raped and manipulated and that’s your response?

Naked Northstar by the awesome Tim Fish.

Oh, great. Nice hair, Northstar. Really great to see you going through a Jay Manuel phase.
IMEANRIGHT. He’s beating up a homophobe and defending his own honor. That’s the point.
I know it was used in a ‘hateful’ manner, but I really wouldn’t mind if people called me a ‘limp wristed mapleleaf’.

While I think Ty isn’t aware of the more positive work done with Northstar as of late, he’s still spot on about the gross handling of him in the past.
“A few years before he was officially “out”, he got a mysterious illness that was very AIDS-like, and he was only cured of it when…It was revealed that he was actually a ….I swear to god….FAIRY. The kind with little fly wings, you know…like Tinkerbell? Being part fairy gave him some sort of immunity in his blood or something, I don’t remember the details, only that I threw my copy across the room when I read it.”
Also pointed out is the sad fate, and even worse publicity stunt by Joe Quesada surrounding the character Freedom Ring. Good article, Mr. Templeton.

A teaser ad for Alpha Flight #12 — the big question at the time was “Which member of Alpha Flight will die?”
John Byrne’s answer, “Not the Indian or the queer.”
*headdesk*
Oh god, Aurora is a crazy bitch. Split personalities can cause some pretty hormonal-esque mood swings. Either that, or don’t accuse your sister of being a slut when you’re a fag, cause homos are obviously gross or something!
from Alpha Flight #8, by John Byrne
[pt 2] At the end of the issue, Raymonde is killed in front of Northstar who was restraining use of his powers to protect his identity.
The narration afterwards is well written by Byrne. It gives us just enough information about their love for each other while throwing in the mutant metaphor to cover things up just enough that any homosexual undertones can be dismissed. Again, for ‘84 this is pretty good stuff.
(side note, I’ve always liked the combo of red and tan)
[pt 1] In Alpha Flight #7 we finally get to some the story points I’ve been waiting for. John Byrne had always intended for Northstar to be gay, but seeing as how this issue came out in 1984 the most he could do was throw hints at the readers.
This issue focuses on twins Northstar and Aurora as they spend some time together in Montreal, meeting up with Raymonde Belmonde. Byrne gives us more than a few hints that these two had a pretty significant, closeted relationship together.
Also worth noting, young Northstar likes old dudes. Totally cool.
Canadian superhero’s/supermodels. The guys outfits are pretty bold, I must say. Mac’s ass is really on display in those white jeans and I have no idea how Walter got into those khaki’s. But just look at Northstar there on the chair, sinking into the gayest lounge pose of all. What a dreamboat. This is John Byrne at his best.
from Alpha Flight #1
Dazzler uses her light-based mutant powers to save Northstar in a fight againts a swarm of vampires.
I kind of like that over the past few years writers have characterized Northstar as the kind of sassy-gay who makes quips like this and also hangs around Dazzler (a former pop star). It used to bug me, but seeing how diverse and well handled Marvel’s cast of queer characters are there really is a place for Northstar’s loud and proud attitude.
Ha! Rogue, everyones favorite southern tramp, tries to make out with big-time-homo Northstar and wonders why ‘nothing’s happening’. Idiot.
While this scene cracked me up it also irritated me. I like Northstar getting as much screen time as possible but of course the characters he’s shown to become closest with are Dazzler (a superhero former pop-star) and Pixie, a teenage hag-in-training. Come on.
